Caroline County Board of Zoning Appeals

Charge/Authority:

The Board of Zoning Appeals shall have the power and duty to hear and decide the following:

Applications for special use exceptions in accordance with Article XVI of Chapter 175 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Caroline County;
Applications for variances in accordance with Article XVII of the same chapter; and
Appeals where it is alleged there is error in any order, requirement, decision or determination made by the Zoning Administrator in the enforcement of the same chapter.

Composition:	Four citizens of Caroline County, including one with Alternate status, appointed by the local Executive and confirmed by the local legislative body. (In Caroline County, the Commissioners serve both the executive and legislative functions.)
Term of Office:	Three years. An indefinite number of consecutive terms may be served. Chairman and Co-Chairman will serve in the positions for one year; terms may run concurrently if so determined by its peers.
Meetings:	Third Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at the Health & Public Services Building, Denton, Maryland, or in special session as the need arises. Meetings are open to the public unless closed under an applicable exception as stated in the Maryland Open Meetings Act ( State Government article, §10-508).
