Public Works Response to the February 2010
Snowstorms
The Caroline County Department of Public Works went "all out"
to deal with the effects of the major snowstorms of
February 5 through 16, 2010. Altogether, 5,935 labor hours
were used in combating the storm including $91,000 in
overtime hours.
DPW expects the storms have resulted in costs of over
$100,000 for equipment damage, plus untold damage to the
roads, with the total cost of the storms to be well in
excess of $500,000.
Plowing equipment used:
- 9 six wheeler dump trucks
- 2 ten wheeler dump trucks
- 3 one ton dump trucks
- 4 tractors with plows
- 3 loaders with V plows
- 4 graders with V plows
- 6 ¾ ton pickups with plows
- 1 Gradall (Used for towing and removing trees)
- 1 backhoe (assisted in loading sand and clearing
parking lots)
In addition, Public Works salaried employees worked a total
of 773 hours during this storm; of those hours, 508.5 were
above their regular hours.
