Building Code

The codes division, in coordination with private inspection agencies, works to ensure the safety of the structures in which we live, work, attend school, worship and play are safe. We provide the first line of defense against building disasters. To ensure that buildings are safe requires the active participation of building safety officials, architects, builders, engineers and others in the construction industry, as well as property owners. When citizens come to our office to obtain permits for building houses, additions, decks, porches, accessory structures, swimming pools, plumbing or electrical work, we do everything we can to assure that the work is done according to safety codes.

We make sure electricians, plumbers, and building contractors are properly licensed, according to state and local laws. We want everyone’s project to be a success and we will help them avoid potential problems that could cost time and money. The permit and inspection process gives everyone the personal satisfaction of a job done right so that they may enjoy their new project with the peace of mind and the knowledge that they meet the safety standards in Caroline County. Safe construction practices help protect the citizens, their families and friends and their investment.

Maryland Building Performance Standards are updated from time to time.
